Born 1966

PROFILE
Anthony syncretizes techniques and theories from both East and West traditions. Trained primarily in Chinese ink, he has fused the ideals of Impressionism, Expressionism, Deconstruction and many other modern art movements into his works during his sojourn in the United Kingdom. He adroitly deployed these skills with equal finesse and the end result is a seamless fusion of styles that becomes uniquely his own. His choice of subjects ranges from urban landscapes to Zen brushstrokes to studies of the human body. These are executed in inimitable strokes perfected by years of training, turning the mundane into sublime visions of beauty frozen in time. Every piece draws you in almost hypnotically to different segments of the picture and allows you to visually savor each portion at different granularity. You can meditate on the forms and colors and be surprised at details you might have missed from earlier scrutiny. That is the ever-changing dynamism and joie de vivre that is preserved or rather infused by the artist into every piece he creates. Anthony's natural talent was recognized early in his career when he won the National Arts Council's Young Artist Award in 2001, signaling him as one of the 3rd Generation artist to watch in Singapore. He has not disappointed with almost 20 group exhibitions under his belt. His is a record of the changing urban landscape of this rapidly progressing digital island and harks back into a time when life was less frenetic and dehumanizing. His works help one to focus on the timeless and eternal.
