Chieu Shuey Fook is one of the most prominent of Singapore's second-generation artists, he was born in 1934 and graduated with a Diploma in Western Painting from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts 1953.
Chieu's forte is his unique ability to work with different materials and medium. From ceramics, batik, enamel, fiberglass, glass to metal relief for he is deservedly famous for, his eclectic approach sees him experimenting with specially concocted dyes of all kinds to add colours to his diverse media.
He held 5 solo exhibitions in Singapore, Germany and Macau and his works are on display in many parts of Singapore from public transport hubs like the Orchard MRT station to 5 star hotels. They have also been curated and incorporated into the permanent collection of the Singapore Art Museum.
Before his decision to become a full-time artist in 1983, he had a promising career as an art director in one of the largest international advertising agency for over 24 years. This honed his aesthetics as well as exposed him to many unique ways of creating visual art in various media.
The series presented here in our gallery are limited edition 3D glass sculptural paintings, created by fusing different dyes and melted metals onto coloured glass pieces and fired in a kiln to fuse them permanently together. The result is a unique work of art nicely framed in a white border internally and housed within a larger wooden frame of 40x40cm ready to be hung or displayed.
In addition there are two rare paintings of his done en plein air of the Mekong River in Thailand. |
